Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Bareboat Charter or Rental?

A bareboat Charter or Rental is basically a Rented Yacht where the charterer or individual paying for the use of the vessel assumes responsibilities.  The Charterer hires a Captain and Crew as these yachts are made to be handled by an experienced Captain and crew to maintain the safety of all the guests and  the charterer. A written agreement is signed whereupon the renter/charterer takes on ownership and possession of the vessel from the true owner; like renting a car or RV.  There is a formal lease arrangement where the charterer takes on all the rights and obligations of ownership without actually transferring title. The Charterer as the temporary owner can bring as many friends or guests as  the vessel may safely accommodate (12 guests of the charterer is maximum and crew is excluded). The Charterer has temporary ownership of his/her own yacht to travel and vacation as desired. Bareboat Chartering gives you the freedom to choose your own destinations and set the pace for your private luxury yacht vacation.

What are the Bareboat Rules in the Yacht Rental and Charter world?

A. A Charter vessel may not carry more than 12 passengers (excluding charterer &  crew).

B. The Charterer must be able to select a crew and have the ability to discharge the crew.

C. A Charter vessel may not carry more than 12 passengers even while moored.  A Charter vessel is considered to be carrying passengers whether moored or underway.

D. The charterer is not considered a passenger and there can only be one person who is considered the bareboat charterer (temporary owner of the yacht).

E. Passengers on bareboat charters or Rentals are considered “guests” of the charterer and cannot be passengers for hire

F. Rose Great Escapes Charter vessels are recreational vessels and rented to the Charterer.  The Charterer brings his or her crew and up to 12 passengers.

G. The true titled owner of the vessel may not be on board the vessel during a Bareboat Charter rental

 A. RGE helps you to select the yacht you want to Rent or Charter and you will sign for the legal right to control the yacht.

 B. RGE will help you to select the Captain of your choice (provided they are approved by the underwriters and insurance companies).

 C. RGE helps to select an appropriate crew to help the Captain.  This crew will make sure your voyage is safe, and enjoyable and take you where you want to go.

We are an easy company to deal with and we want you coming back. We want you to recognize that it’s best to rent a yacht than to own  a yacht. RGE will strive to impress you with the Rental experience.

Do I need to provide a Captain for my a Rose Great Escapes Yacht?

 A. Our yachts are large in size and vary from 55 feet to 85 feet and an experienced Captain is needed for everyone’s safety.  Therefore, YES  you must have a Captain of your choice controlling your yacht.

D. The General condition of the Yacht will be reviewed both before and after the Yacht Rental.  Both parties should document existing damage, missing items etc. However, Rose Great Escapes yachts are all relatively new so this should make the rental experience pleasant.  Nevertheless, the need to go over the general condition of the vessel is important.

E. Both Renter and RGE or its representatives must sign the inspection documents during the pre & post rental inspection.
